RESTORATIVE WORKSHOPS AND RETREATS

Movement that supports you in everyday life

I run a mix of workshops and retreat days to help you move more easily, feel more confident in your body, and take time out from the busyness of everyday life.

Most events blend yoga and the Feldenkrais Method. They’re suitable for all experience levels, whether you're new to movement or returning after injury, stress, or a long break.

My focus is on real-life movement. That includes building strength without strain, getting up and down more easily, and giving your body more options for how you move through the world.

What to Expect

• Clear, supportive instruction
• Practical tools you can use every day
• Adaptable movement for all bodies
• Time for rest and reflection
• A down-to-earth, welcoming environment

Getting down onto the floor and back up again is something we did as children, many hundreds of times without noticing. To explore, to play, to read, to learn. It felt good, unencumbered, simple and so easy.

As we move into adulthood, our lifestyle, furniture, all our home appliances etc mean, life rarely asks us to get on to the floor for prolonged periods. So we do it less and less and it leaves our "movement vocabulary."

When we do need to get down towards the floor, to tie shoelaces, pick something up it feels un-natural, clunky, unfamiliar. It feels an effort.
And if you go down you also have to get up.

How many times have you found yourself straining, as you get up, groaning, pulling on a nearby bit of furniture for support, asking for a hand up…? Feeling your creaky sensitive knees, hips and joints as they take the strain, tense and brace. Not surprising that overtime we feel sore, tight and restricted.

These changes do not just happen at the point of pain. The pain is a result of many years of accumulated restriction, tension, and strain.

It is possible to change this vicious cycle.

When we move between levels from standing to sitting, on the floor, to lying on the floor and back up, we involve all of our body. It keeps our joints, bones, muscles, tissues hydrated, vital and strong. So having lots of possible ways to move down and back up is essential for healthy longterm function in life.

Kind Words

"Looking for something that would get me moving in a gentle way, and a friend recommended the Feldenkrais Method. I saw Ruth for a 1:1 and I am hooked. My posture has improved and I am sleeping so much better."

Martin

“When I first met Ruth getting out of a chair was a big effort for me. Now I can even get down and sit on the floor… something I haven’t been able to do for years!”

Elaine

"When I first received the diagnosis on my knee and hip, following my fall, I couldn't see how it was going to get better. But thanks to you I am in a totally different place and moving with much more freedom and agility."
