As we step across the threshold of a brand new year, the world is in ever expanding turmoil. Little wonder we get drawn into doom-scrolling and hyper-focused on all that is so desperately broken.
There is much work to do and we can each play our part.
In welcoming 2026 may we stay tenderly listening.
Respectful and respecting of difference.
In appreciation and gratitude for the wonderment and goodness that is always around us.
That is so easy to miss and so easily becomes overshadowed.
Here is a poem I wrote about that.
Walking at daybreak is my anchor.
Leaving a home enveloped in sleep, to greet the rising sun.
A space of possibility. Focus. Just me.
Quiet stillness bathed in pinky rays.
The promise of the approaching day.
A precious time.
Often, I walk submerged
Layered in thought.
Lulled by the hypnotic rhythm and weight shift of my steps.
It arrives.
Dropped from nowhere into my field of attention.
On the cusp of unfolding its colours to the world…not there the day before.
Fresh sounds of new bird song.
Unfamiliar to my ear.
Musky, fruity, smells
That find their way along my nostrils.
A new path uncovered, as I tread my known route.
The excitement and adventure of exploring
Where it leads
What I might find.
What was there, unnoticed
Reveals itself.
Treasures unburied.
The gift of discovery.
Bringer of awe and delight
Sharpens and crisps the present moment.
I sense mySELF and my world, afresh.
Awake to it.
Recalibrated
Senses primed.
Humbled by a bigger picture.
Present
I step into my day.
This is Avon Beach at sunrise, where I have been walking the last week and am ever grateful.

What unexpected gift has “revealed itself” in recent days that has lifted your spirits? Do let me know - I would love to hear.
