In a world that rarely slows down, many of us find ourselves caught in a cycle of constant doing—always striving, always switched on. Over time, this persistent state of stress can wear us down physically, mentally, and emotionally. Burnout, overwhelm, and exhaustion can creep in quietly and settle in deeply.

But there are ways to begin to gently unhook from this pattern—and this style of restorative, nourishing yoga is one of them.

If you’re feeling frazzled, disconnected from your body, or like you’re always running on empty, this gentle, nurturing approach to yoga offers a space to begin again. Here in Forest Row, surrounded by natural beauty and a sense of quiet, we create space to rest, reset, and gradually reconnect—with ourselves and with life.

What Is Nourishing Restorative Yoga?

This style of yoga is deeply supportive and calming, with a focus on creating space for healing and restoration—not through pushing or effort, but through tenderness, presence, and care. It blends gentle, breath-led movement with restful practices and mindful attention. You don’t need to be flexible, strong, or experienced. This isn’t about achieving a pose—it’s about meeting yourself with compassion.

Classes are built around accessible movement, guided by the rhythm of the breath. They are slow, spacious, and rooted in kindness. Using props like cushions, bolsters, and blankets, we create physical comfort and emotional safety. Postures are adapted to suit your body and your energy levels on the day.

This is yoga that listens.

Yoga that allows.

Yoga that meets you where you are.

How This Practice Supports Your Nervous System

Stress doesn’t just live in the mind—it lives in the body. It shows up in tense shoulders, shallow breathing, racing thoughts, poor sleep, and digestive troubles. This nourishing yoga practice works with the body to help guide the nervous system out of a chronic stress response and into a state of rest and repair.

When we slow down and allow the breath to lead, something begins to shift. The vagus nerve, which plays a key role in regulating the nervous system, responds to the cues of breath, movement, rest, and safety. As we spend time in calming postures, supported by props, and guided by gentle awareness, our nervous system starts to find balance again.

You may begin to notice:

A softening of tension in the body

A slowing of the breath and heart rate

A calming of anxious or racing thoughts

A return of clarity, steadiness, and ease

In this style of yoga, these small changes accumulate over time. With consistent practice, many students report feeling less reactive, more grounded, and better equipped to meet the challenges of daily life with calm and presence.

My Approach to Teaching Restorative Yoga

Each person who walks into my space is welcomed just as they are—without expectation or judgment. I hold a strong belief that healing happens best in an atmosphere of respect, compassion, and emotional safety.

In class, we work slowly. We move in and out of postures with careful transitions, guided by the breath. I use props abundantly to support your body in ways that feel good. There’s no pushing, no striving—just listening, responding, and allowing.

My teaching is rooted in the belief that you are the expert on your own experience. I will offer tools, techniques, and pathways, but always encourage you to move at your own pace and listen deeply to what you need. Over time, you’ll grow a personal toolkit—resources that you can draw on when stress arises, both on and off the mat.

This approach cultivates agency and confidence. You’ll begin to trust your body more, understand your needs more clearly, and develop a compassionate relationship with yourself. It’s a slow and beautiful process—one that honours your individual rhythm and capacity.

Why Forest Row Is Ideal for This Practice

Nestled in the heart of the Ashdown Forest in East Sussex, Forest Row is a village that naturally invites stillness and connection. Surrounded by rolling countryside, ancient woodlands, and a rich ecological landscape, it’s a place that soothes the senses from the moment you arrive.

Forest Row is home to two incredible organic biodynamic farms, offering fresh produce and a connection to the land that feels grounding and wholesome. After your session, you might wander through the village, enjoy a nourishing meal from one of our local cafés, or simply sit with a warm drink and let your nervous system continue to settle.

The pace here is slower. The atmosphere relaxed and friendly. You’ll find a colourful, heart-centered community, and a space that feels far removed from the pressure and noise of everyday life.

Many students choose to make a restorative yoga session part of a larger self-care day. Take a walk in the forest, enjoy a local lunch, visit a farm shop, and let the day be a full reset—a chance to tend to yourself in the most gentle and nourishing of ways.
